Non- Residential Electric Vehicle Parking Requirement for New Developments

Most municipalities within Metro Vancouver have adopted policies related to EV charging stalls for new residential development. A few municipalities have adopted similar policies for non-residential development (commercial, industrial and institutional).

 

NAIOP Vancouver has compiled a brief summary of those municipalities with EV parking requirements for non-residential uses. We invite our members to review this list and advise if they are aware of any municipalities currently working on similar policies.

 

NAIOP Vancouver is fully supportive of such programs and wants to ensure municipalities and their staff have accurate information including construction and operating costs, prior to adopting these policies.

 

 Municipality  Non-Residential New Development EV Charging Requirement
City of Burnaby  **Proposed Policy: 25% of stalls to have electrified outlets.
Corporation of Delta  Mixed use buildings require 20% of stalls to be provided with Level 2 Charging Station
 Maple Ridge  10% of stalls (when there are 10 or more required stalls) shall be roughed in with infrastructure capable of providing Level 2 charging. This applies to Commercial but excludes Industrial uses
District of North Vancouver  Target "in the range of" 10% of stalls pre-wired for level 2
City of Port Coquitlam  N/A - policies are limited to a references regarding separate panels for metering
City of Port Moody  20% of commercial stalls to have an energized outlet to provide Level 2 charging
City of Richmond  **Policy to be proposed shortly with industry engagement
 City of Surrey  20% of commercial stalls to have an energized outlet to provide Level 2 charging
 City of Vancouver  10% of stalls to be EV Ready for Level 2 charging
District of West Vancouver  10% of stalls to be equipped with Level 2 Chargers
